Introduction

The NBME® has released 150 sample questions for students to use in preparation for the USMLE Step 1 exam. These questions are available directly from the USMLE web site.

Unfortunately, the NBME® does not provide explanations nor score predictions with these questions. Fortunately, our editorial board has written detailed explanations for every question, detailing both right answers and wrong. We also provide a scoring table so you can crudely estimate your Step 1 score from these sample questions.

When you're ready to get started, follow these steps:

Step 1:
Download the questions from the USMLE web site
(click on "PDF version of Step 1 Content Description and Sample Test Materials")

Step 2:
Answer the questions. We recommend you take the test in three sets (50 questions per set). You should put aside one hour for every set and take a few minutes break in between each one.

Step 3:
Score your questions using our explanations. We recommend that you read every explanation--we've purposefully included useful information on right answers and wrong ones.

Step 4:
See how your performance translates to a putative Step 1 score using our scoring table.
